. "Memoirs of a Geisha"

subtle delicate harsh beauty feminity perfect delicate evening beauty Japanese culture sacrifice nostalgia lost world tradition hidden love yearning blue war

Visually speaking, the film is very rich. The photography is really powerful, the colours are vibrant and it's almost a culinary pleasure for the eyes.
As far as I'm concerned, It was also a reminder of lost traditions. It follows the streaks left of an ancient time where living was an art form, when every movement of a hand, every step could lead to a work of art, to a moment of true beauty. I think the most magnificient gift of this movie is reminding us of lost time and the suspension of passing time as we turn to beauty and grace which do not acknowledge time or space.

Right now I'm working on a project which is making fake book covers for the books series SWEEP (by Cate Tiernan). I found some actors that match in my mind the characters... Anyways, this is for the first book, "Book of Shadows" featuring Kate Mara as Morgan. I'm not sure for the SWEEP title, it seems a bit too "default title" from Photoshop with the red halo... But I like, it echoes the reddish light from the portrait.

Hey there!

Just to explain why I haven't posted much this month. First, I went back to school and I must work on my thesis this year so that means less time online. Then, there is this OTHER BLOG M A S H  U P  N O I S E  I have to write for my English class and I'd be glad you checked it out :)

I didn't have time to complete my 21 to-do lists BUT I've planned a thing or two... More after the jump!

Worst. Movie. Ever.
I *HEART* a good romantic comedy and I'm not really picky when it comes to his genre because it's like comfort food: quite dense but so good. However, I don't appreciate directors or writers fucking up the genre and assuming the audience is completely idiotic and therefore doesn't deserve a decent storyline and decent characters. Plus, when you make these movies you HAVE to choose carefully the characters because some actors don't fit in this genre as hard as it is to believe it.
"Dan in Real Life" was a waste of time and money and made me want either laugh at how lame it was or vomit because of the abundance of clichés and horrible couple Binoche/Carrell.

And then she was back!

Our little trip went well though there have been tensions, a sprain to my knee, lots of partying, rain, beach, bus tours, youth hostels and planes.

As of Wednesday up til September 2nd, I'll be on my first big Eurotrip. My friends Sonia, Zélie and Jean-Victor are coming along. We've been planning this trip since February and we're pretty excited! At first we wanted to purchase an Interrail card which costs around 400 euros and basically it allows you to travel most Europe for a month. The thing is the distances are huge so we decided not to spend days in a train and rather check plane tickets. Eventually we found very cheap tickets and now we'll be travelling by plane which is comfy and a gain of time and money. And I love airports!

Our itinerary: Tromso in Norway, a northern city near the North Cape (Europe northest point); Stockholm in Sweden; Copenhagen in Denmark; Berlin in Germany and Barcelona in Spain.

Our budget: 1 500 euros (plane tickets = 400 euros for 6 flights)

Rentals: 2 in Tromso (little house by the beach) and Barcelona (apartment), youth hostels in other locations

I'll try to post from cybercafés and keep this LJ updated. Anyways, I'll make sure to report 21 things about this trip :D

I hope summer will also mean travelling for you,  whoever that might be!

PRETTY PERSUASION, 2005, Marcos Siega
Movie # 1
Remaining: 20
Rating: C +

I'm a huge fan of teen movies; whether they're light comedies about high school teens or indie movies dealing with teen angst and other non-that-light issues (like in Juno). So, this morning as I was zapping through commercials while watching TV, I found out that a movie I wanted to see for a long time, Pretty Persuasion, was on at 12 pm; I figured it could be fun to use it for my 21 movies to watch.

Two icons; I'm warning you I hadn't opened Photoshop for more than a year!

Me: I'm Nadia and I'm 21 (since June 23rd 2008). I'm French and I live in Paris. My mom is from Panama and has also Italian and Spanish blood; my father is from Marocco. I have two twin brothers. I go to college at La Sorbonne where I attend a master in media studies. My friends give me nicknames such as "Daria" or "Geeky"; I'll admit I'm pretty geeky because I love tv (fiction, documentaries, some reality tv) and digital art. I also enjoy cooking. My big problem is that I'm lazy. I can make tons of "to do lists" and not do a single thing. So my big challenge this year is to move my ass and do 21 things concerning music, tv, reading, and so on before I turn 22.

Begin date: June 23rd 2008 (officially ^^ )
End date: June 23rd 2009

Categories:
- Read 21 books;
- Watch 21 movies (can be documentaries);
- Write 21 tv reviews about tv shows, reality tv episodes of the 2008-2009 season;
- Attend 21 cultural events (exhibitions, museums, concerts, plays...)
- Cook 21 recipes;
- Go to 21 drinking/ eating spots or hang-outs;
- Test 21 magazines or newspapers;
- Listen to 21 music albums;
- Make 21 entries about my trip in Europe (august 2008);
- Report 21 shopping flees.
